While at my desk studying and praying, it really dawned on me that this is a new day! I don’t have to wait to receive fresh inspiration; it can happen right here, right now. Rather than rehearse the past, my thoughts can be filled with God’s wonder today, instead. This is always up to me. By turning any and every limited human thought into the expectation of peace and harmony is what I will do today. Revelation 21:5 reads “And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.'” What a freeing thought!
While thinking about joy and beauty, I am reminded of the hundreds of advertisements and commercials showing happy people who take certain medicines or even the perfect-looking couples who have invested correctly and are enjoying their life fully, or joyous-looking families eating the right foods at a meal! We are bombarded with these images constantly. Often, we want to compare our life with those pictures and when they just don’t compare, we think we have failed. How very ridiculous is that kind of thinking, but we all do it from time to time; some more than others.
John 10:10 reads “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Those advertisements and commercials are the thieves that come to mesmerize and hypnotize us into thinking we need what they are selling. Not true. Our prosperity, beauty and joy come from within and only from Godlike thinking. Today I will be alert to what I am thinking! I will choose joy that cannot be taken from me.
As I begin my day this morning, I was pondering just how close God is; certainly not a far-off God! Feeling He is as close as my next heartbeat, prayer or thought and relishing that thought I am reminded of Romans 8:38-39 which states “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
When I keep this foremost in my mind, I can be alert to any irritation, fear or worry that attempts to sneak in and cast it out immediately. Either my thoughts are harmonious or not for they certainly cannot hold Love and hatred at the same time. It is my choice what to nurture and I choose peace.
There is a huge difference in the “tree of life” and the “tree of knowledge”. The first signifies eternal reality while the latter speaks of human opinions, justifications, condemnation and comparisons. We are given strict orders to stay away from that tree in Genesis 2:16 where it states “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Isn’t that telling us to stay with the thought that God is Good and the only creator? He is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Good! When we pray with that knowing, there is no room for error. The more Good we focus on, the more there is visible to us.
So often we are seduced by the thought that the world applauds quick wit and fast replies. There are two verses in the Bible that speak to the contrary. James 1:19 states, “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Ephesians 4:29 reads, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
This is what is foremost in my thought today and I will diligently work about doing just this!
As I ponder the serpent in the third chapter of Genesis, he only made the suggestion to Eve to eat the apple. He did not force the apple down her throat but just tempted her with the thought she could become as a god knowing good from evil. She had been forewarned by God but gave in to temptation. There is only One God and we reflect that God as we were made in His image and likeness.
In the Lord’s Prayer, we pray “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”. Any thought that does not come from God comes from that illusive, lying snake. We must learn to recognize the origination of a thought and learn to be aware of negative thoughts, where we refute them immediately and replace them with the Truth! God is, error isn’t and that’s that! (A little simplified, but still true)
Genesis 3:5 states, “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Sin was a lie from the beginning and still is but Divine Love can always replace it and does so!
This morning I am working with Genesis 1:26 which reads, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ ”
We were given dominion over every “creeping” thing which I take to mean even thoughts of aging that try to sneak into our thinking to limit us. Haven’t you seen old “30-year” olds and young “80-year” olds? Does the chronological number really define us? We needn’t let it if we believe what the Bible says. Limitations of Good are not from God and we can refute that lie and replace it with the Truth about God and our relationship to Him.
