Many years ago, I heard a story about someone passing and was at the pearly gates. Saint Peter told him he had received the right to go to heaven and took him by the hand to this wonderful place where there were long tables filled with luscious food and drink, beautiful music and long, gold eating utensils where everyone was feeding each other.
Then the man asked if he could just glimpse into hell to see what it was like. Saint Peter agreed and took him into another room with the exact same set up, but rather than the beautiful music, there was screeching and yelling. The same long gold eating utensils but everyone was trying to feed themselves rather than others so the food was never reaching their mouths.
That is so true for me today. When my focus is on others with compassion and love, I lose self-absorption where my challenges appear so huge. They soon disappear when gratitude and humility and love for others is foremost in my thought.
Galations 5:22 reads, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”
Recently I read an article where the author used an example of a $10 gold piece, a $10 bill and a $10 counterfeit bill. He related the gold piece as God, the bill as man and the counterfeit as error, evil or satan. Man has God behind him as the $10 bill is backed by Fort Knox and the counterfeit is just that, counterfeit with nothing behind it. When we are tempted by anything not of God, we can see it as nothingness, powerless, counterfeit. This was so reassuring to me.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” Galatians 5:22. Anything opposing those are counterfeit!
If God is Life, and He is; there can be no death for there is no place where God is not.
If God is Love, and He is, there can be no hatred since there is no opposing power to Love.
If God is Truth and He is, there can be no lie since error is self-destructive and can not stand.
If God is intelligence, and He is, there can be no lack of intelligence.
If God is Spirit, and He is, there can be no “spiritlessness” since God is omnipresent.
If God is Soul, and He is, then there can be no void that is not filled with Love and Light.
If God is Principle, and He is, then there can be no random acts of any kind. Everything Good stems from Principle and is the real and eternal.
Always begin with God and what He sees and knows to be true.
