Some years ago, I recall a book and movie entitled “The Stepford Wives” which depicted this town with robotic women who had perfect homes, humanly perfect appearances and not a human care in the world. Not only was this frightening to me, but boring as well. The reality is that we live in a Spiritually perfect world but we are to see through God’s eyes which are love. Sometimes there is a temptation to want everything to be perfect humanly, but that can never happen and the material senses will never make sense. Keeping our focus on God is the only way to see perfection, which will never have imperfection of any kind.
Romans 8:15-16 reads “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” This means spiritually, not materially.
This morning during my prayer work, I am reminded that God is Love, Truth, Life and Spirit as told to us in the Bible. This God I definitely want to know better including my relationship to Him rather than the God I knew from my youth, which was an angry and punishing God. Realizing that everything that happens to us is to further our understanding and dependence on Him is much more comforting to me. John 12:29 reads “The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to Him.” This was said in reference to the Crucifixion of Jesus.
This speaks to me as I know it to certainly be true for me. Today, I will listen more for angel messages, rather than thunder.
Today I decided I would delve into the Beatitudes one by one. The first one is Matthew 5:3 which reads “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Admittedly, that was never my favorite until I realized that was exactly when I turned to God wholeheartedly and was more willing to listen. Otherwise, my thought is so filled with worldly nonsense and worry, that peace can never find a space. This morning I will quieten my thought until I feel that peace.
Today I will refuse to take myself so seriously! I will laugh at myself more and realize I am not in control of my life. God is my pilot and I am His co-pilot, not the other way around as the saying went years ago. From Proverbs 17:22 it reads, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” and from Proverbs 31:25 it states, ” She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Sometimes, it seems that the world reports only dire predictions and bad news. Today I will recognize God’s presence refusing to believe He has left us!
This morning while studying the Bible, I was drawn to the politics of the days of Jesus. He came to prove there is a higher law and God has a plan! An old definition of “obey” is to “hear completely” and that is exactly what I want to do today. I want to obey God! II Corinthians 3:16-17 reads, “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” Where the Spirit is, there is also Love. We never want laws without Love! Both are needed.
As I celebrate the birth of the Christ, I also celebrate the rebirth of the Spirit within which is actually to be done throughout each and every day. Hope to keep this Love spark going. Colossians 3:15 reads, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
This is on-going, not just for one day a year!
As I pray this morning, my thought, like many Americans, is on the upcoming election. Pondering this and recognizing the discomfort I am feeling, I am reminded that whoever is elected is not my Savior and there is a higher government and that is God’s! In praying about this, I need to understand more of the nature of the God I worship. That nature is Love and Truth and Spirit and is impartial and loving all. My prayer needs to be more about the office rather than the personality. Today I will pray with John 16:33 which reads, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” That is very clear and I will trust this election and leave the outcome to God as I continue to pray,
