This morning as I began my day at my desk studying the Bible and praying, I noticed that I felt spiritually flat. Immediately, I turned to God to feel His spirit. Yesterday had been spent with checking off “to do” lists for the holidays and doing much “busy work”. Then, my phone rang and it was someone needing prayerful help and I felt God with me as I prayed with this caller. I had set my feelings of lack aside as I prayed to know God was with me and this person and our every need was met by Divine Love.
That desolate feeling was replaced with the Holy Spirit as I realized it always is when I remove any thought of the little ego. Today is God’s day, not mine and I will do His will, not mine. Psalms 40:8 reads “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” Gratitude and humility fill my heart as I get ready for the day.
As I study about the many healings of Jesus this morning, I began to think about them. There was no place that Jesus asked people how long they had had a condition, or if either of their parents were sick of the same disease, or what they had been thinking and on and on! He just simply saw through God’s/Love’s eyes which is the perfection and harmony of their true being. Never was it mentioned that they were being punished for some evil. He always started with God! Matthew 9:35 reads “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” Today, I ask to see what God is seeing; Life and Harmony and Health everywhere!
This morning as I was reading about the money changers in Jesus’ day and how He threw them out of the temple; I wondered how this applied today. Mark 11:16-17 states “And would not suffer than any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And He taught, saying unto them, ‘Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.'” Suddenly, a light came on and I thought of going in to worship with a heart filled with anger and hatred or a head filled with worry! Couldn’t He have been talking of that as well because none of that has any place in a house of worship. Even as I pray at home, am I checking to see that none of that resides within my heart?
This morning while preparing for a week trip to another state for our granddaughter’s wedding, my husband just brought in a piece of paper with the weather forecast for the next week. Much rain is predicted and this wedding is outside and also we will be driving a distance. My first thought was “Oh, no!” Immediately, I thought of John 10:10 which states “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” The thief can easily be regret of the past and fear of the future which steals your joy. Then, as I was reciting the Lord’s prayer, and when I repeated “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;” I recognized this as error. God is in charge here so I need not fret nor worry. Yes, we need to use wisdom but our every need is met by God!
While reading this morning about the “Kingdom of God” and the “Kingdom of Heaven”, it was brought to my attention many Bible scholars believe these to be the same. The Bible also states that God is Love, Spirit and Life and when we substitute those synonyms as in the Kingdom of Love or the Kingdom of Spirit, we can certainly realize that is talking about now. Matthew 10:7 states “The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” That, to me, means we do not have to wait until here after or here later but is available to us right now where we are!
There are times it seems that I ask God to “fix” a human situation when, in fact, He never sees anything that need to be “fixed”. Instead of seeing God more manlike, I need to see man more Godlike. Resurrection is actually the disappearance of the false in the ever-presence of God. As I begin with God and ask to see His presence everywhere, the false just simply falls away. God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Good and when I pray along those lines, my view becomes more Spiritual and Loving.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 states “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This is seeing through God’s eyes.
This morning I was thinking of all of the “Fear Not”s in the Bible and then I thought of the verses with “Fear God” and began to ponder. It suddenly occurred to me that meant to respect! We are supposed to respect God but not respect anything ungodlike and it made perfect sense to me. Immediately, I saw where the power behind us is always greater than the challenge before us. Isaiah 12:2 states “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.”
Today, I will watch what I am respecting!
