Trusting comes so easily during a crisis time! It is much more difficult to trust God when everything is going smoothly since we can be lulled into a stupor of thinking we are self-sufficient. That is when we should be depending even more on God. Often you may hear people say they work better during a crisis. That is due to the fact they know they need God! Actually, He cares just as much about us as we take tiny steps. Psalm 62:8 states “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” That verse doesn’t say “in times of trouble” but all times. Today, I will lean upon Him for everything.
While working at my desk this morning, I suddenly remembered how other people’s opinion was very important to my mother. There was always a “What will the neighbors think?) or how will something look or being dressed in our finery for Church. On some level, I knew that was not how I wanted to live my life. For years, I may have gone to the other extreme, but there came a time when I realized I just wanted to please God. Psalm 62:5-8 says it best for me “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”
As Christians, we have heard this forever and it is easy to identify that God is Love when we are witnessing good in human experience. What happens when we are a little uncomfortable or things are not as we have outlined? Often times like that have us entertain doubt or lose faith in God. God never changes! God is Love and that means at all times. Psalm 46:1 states, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Man can never, ever be separated from God, Good. All we ever need to do is to wake up to this Truth. Challenges do not mean punishment but opportunities to learn more of God and our relationship to Him.
As God is Good and omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, there can be no lack of Good. “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.” stated in Psalm 18:30.
The above brings me such a secure feeling!
So often when we sin (erroneous thinking) , the darkness becomes our refuge. We then wallow in self-pity, hatred, bitterness, self-righteousness, etc. By turning to the Christ, error is revealed to us to be corrected, not to punish us. The Christ (Truth, light) illuminates us by driving out the darkness.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:17
Today has been a very difficult day with my feelings being crushed by a relative. After allowing myself some self-pity, I began praying and asking God for direction and guidance and opened the Bible to Psalm 18:30 where it reads, “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.”
That was my answer as I realize God is working his plan out and all I have to do is to trust Him completely and I do.
