Yesterday I read an article written by Darla Baerg on the “pros” and “cons” of controlled fires in large forests. With pine trees, the pine cones have a seed in them which is only activated by intense heat. This is a natural process in some areas in order to grow new trees.
We can relate to this in our own life wanting to avoid any and all discomfort, but by walking through these fires, not only to we have to lean totally on God, real growth comes from walking through those flames. This is not punishment but for our own Good.
Psalms 66:12 reads “You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.”
As I look back over this past year, my heart fills with gratitude for the proof of God’s Love in sparing my husband among other challenges. The spiritual growth I have experienced due to the challenges has been vast and I am reminded of Isaiah 43:2 which states, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Psalms 66:12 reads, “We went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.”
This has been so true for me in this past year and I feel very blessed. I wish each and everyone a blessed Happy New Year!
