Heaven is Here

This morning I am thinking about Heaven being a state of mind and I am reminded of something I heard many years ago.  “We cannot get to Heaven until everyone does.”  To me that means if I am seeing ungodlike traits in anyone, that can keep me from experiencing joy and peace.  We need to see others as God sees them; not the rough and sometimes nasty exterior.  So often, they are coming from fear.  Just like at Halloween, we don’t believe the scary costumes at our door, when the children come to “trick or treat”, but know the purity and innocence beneath that apparel.

Luke 6:37 states “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”  Only then, can we experience Heaven.

The Golden Rule

“Do unto others as we would have them do unto us.”   This is something we have heard all of our life, but this morning I thought of it differently.  I thought of loving others as  I want to be loved; seeing others as I would like to be seen and of course, treating others as I would like to be treated.  As I prayed to do this, I knew I hadn’t always done this and I was led to Luke 6:37 which reads “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”  Does this not apply to ourselves as well.

Today, I will be alert in practicing this.

Real Man

While watching a program last night on television, a man played such a despicable part and a woman played such a fearful role that they both were believable.  After a while, I couldn’t separate them from the role they were playing.  Then I began thinking of someone I know who has an undesirable trait that appears real!  My thought shifted as I prayed to see him as the child of God he really is.  He is succeeding in this part without even knowing his true identity.  Today I will focus on his real identity, whether or not he is aware of it.

Luke 6:37 reads “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Be Gentle

This morning while at my desk, studying and praying, I noticed there was not much joy in my praying.  Almost immediately, I began to think of everything I had to be grateful for and was instantly repentant for my thinking.  Then I opened the Bible to Luke 6:37 where it reads, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.  Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”  This includes my thoughts about me.  Today I will be gentle with myself!  That makes it easier to be gentle with others.
