Problem-Free

This morning as I read from a devotional book; one other than what I usually study, the first sentence got my attention!  It began “Give up the illusion that you deserve a problem-free life.”  As I reread it, I thought that I definitely didn’t agree with that.  It is just that attitude that keeps one down spiritually.  One that says we are not deserving and a woeful outlook.  I turned immediately to God  and knew the Truth for me.  I am deserving as we all are since we express God.  We may have problems which are actually only opportunities for spiritual growth, but to look at life as one problem after another is depressing to me and I refuse to look at my life like that.  I choose grateful expectancy of Good!

John 16:33 reads, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  That does not say to me that I don’t deserve a problem-free life.

World Popularity

While pondering about human popularity, I was gently reminded how important that was to me while in school many years ago.  It seemed necessary to me for those to like me even when I may have not liked them in return.  Many times, I have seen it in parents who want to be their children’s best friends or in jobs where the leader was obsessed with his popularity rating so  that his job suffered.

When we put God first and realize He is our main concern, everything else falls into place.  John 16:33 states “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence.  In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer, take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted!  For I have overcome the world.  I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.”

We are never told that everyone is going to like us or agree with us.  What is important is that we hear God and obey Him!

Thoughts

When we are aware of our thoughts, we can tell when they begin to spiral downward into darkness.  This mind is referred to as the “carnal mind” in the Bible and we are warned against it.  I heard a lecture some years ago where the lecturer related this to an elevator and said we could get off on any floor and did not need to go to the basement.  Loving this analogy I remembered early on in my life, I felt like I needed to “pit” out to turn to God.  World thought or carnal mind would tell you that when you reached bottom, there was no way to go but up, but you can stop at any time.

The difference today for me is I recognize negativity early on and immediately turn my thoughts to God.  John 16:33 reads “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence.  In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer, take courage; be confident, certain and undaunted!  For I have overcome the world.  I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered  it for you.”  This is true today as always!

Hurricane Harvey

The rain has been going on for hours from the effects of the hurricane.  We have rolled up towels under the back windows behind my desk.  The two verses I am praying with this morning are John 16:33 and John 14:27.  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have over come the world.” and “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

As I study with these verses, I know God is in control and there is no reason to fear.

God Meets Every Need

Today I received a call from the Art League telling me none of my pieces had been selected for the show but my husband had two of his three photographs selected.  I was devastated and was filled with jealousy about my husband.  We went to the grocery store where I ignored him until finally I turned to God and humbly prayed right there in the coffee aisle.  Immediately, I realized God had answered my prayer by not letting my work be accepted!  My heart softened and my pride was rebuked and I thank God for meeting my every need.

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence.  In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer, take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted! For I have overcome the world.  I Have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.” John 16:33.    I do not need validation from the world!

Who or What is Really Governing Us

As I pray this morning, my thought, like many Americans, is on the upcoming election.  Pondering this and recognizing the discomfort I am feeling, I am reminded that whoever is elected is not my Savior and there is a higher government and that is God’s!  In praying about this, I need to understand more of the nature of the God I worship.  That nature is Love and Truth and Spirit and is impartial and loving all.  My prayer needs to be more about the office rather than the personality.  Today I will pray with John 16:33 which reads, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  That is very clear and I will trust this election and leave the outcome to God as I continue to pray,

Why Struggle?

This morning while I was at my desk, I glanced out the window to watch a bird walking up a tree and it appeared to be struggling.  As I continued to watch it, the question came to mind, “Why would that little bird be struggling, when it could just fly?”  Then, I was reminded that I sometime do the same thing, when I could just turn to God and give Him my seeming problems.

John 16:33 reads, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”

When I looked back the little bird had flown off and I realized he had just been getting insects for food from under the bark.  The human scene can be so deceiving!
