The Weather

While at my desk studying and praying, I received a frantic call from someone in another state asking me to pray about the weather since the predictions do not look good.  The verse to a Hymn we sing at Church came to mind:

“In heavenly Love abiding, No change my heart shall fear;

And safe is such confiding, For nothing changes here.

The storm may roar without me, My heart may low be laid;

But God is round about me, And can I be dismayed?”

Isaiah 41:10 states “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  These words appear to me to be a promise and I will take them as such.

Hymn of Promise

At Church today, our soloist sang the following which I think is beautiful and wanted to share it.

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise; butterflies will soon be free!  In the cold and snow of winter, there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.  There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.  From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.  In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity.  In our doubt, there is believing; in our life, eternity.  In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see; unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

As I reread this, I thought, this is a beautiful prayer!

The Storm

In praying about the appearance of all types of storms, whether they be of the weather, physical, financial, I have been led to the first verse of a hymn which I find to be consoling.

In heavenly Love abiding,

No change my heart shall fear;

And safe is such confiding,

For nothing changes here.

The storm may roar without me,

My heart may low be laid;

But God is round about me,

And can I be dismayed?

When I begin my prayer with the above verse, peace comes and quietens my thought while I lay all on the altar.  God is in control!
