This morning while at my desk, I received two separate phone calls for prayer for another family member. Each wasn’t aware of the other call. This request was for someone that I had had seeming occasion over the years to not like.
As I began to pray, I had to replace personal feelings with God’s Love and know I couldn’t do this without His help. Soon, the past history just vanished into its native nothingness as I recognized this individual as God’s child. My heart filled with Love and I opened my Bible to Revelation 19:1 which states “After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: ‘Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.'”
Love quickly replaced bitterness and I knew only healing was going on!
While praying this morning about the senseless tragedy in a small Church in Texas, I know I cannot make sense of it. On Facebook, someone posted he would love to see where there is peace on earth. Immediately, I looked within my own heart to make sure I was not harboring any resentment or bitterness toward anyone because Peace does begin within the individual. My comfort today comes from Romans 8:38-39 which states, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Today, in the sobering aftermath of the shooting yesterday, I will pray that even though I may not understand, I will continue to know God is still in charge and has all of us in His sight.
There are times when an outcome is not as we had planned or hoped and soon, we entertain feelings of regret. If thoughts go unattended, they can spiral down to resentment, but by praying with I Peter 5:6 which states, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”, we can know that God is working His purpose out. Not sometime, but every time, we can rest assured that God knows what He is doing and we are always blessed. This blessing can only be seen as we release all bitterness and regret.
To me, the kingdom of heaven means peace, harmony and well-being and is here and now and we don’t have to wait until here-after or here later to experience it. Luke 12:32 reads, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” As we live life to the fullest with Love for all of God’s creation, we can experience that joy! Replace all bitterness, envy and revenge with Love which dispels all negativity.
When we went to go for our walk this afternoon, I began having pains in one of my legs. Being a Christian Scientist, we are taught that an erroneous thought is always behind a pain. Our walk was cut short and we returned home and I picked up my Bible to read and pray.
A friend at Church had told me to read Psalm 3 after she had read my blog this past week-end, which I did several times. After the last reading, a subtle thought of bitterness came up . I realized this was my answer and I am so grateful for this study and for such friends, who rather than give human advice, direct me toward scripture. ” Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.” * The bitterness needed to be ejected from thought and it was! Joy was restored!!
