My question today is “Who am I serving?” We cannot serve two gods! We cannot serve both God and fear. Was thinking about David and Goliath and the Goliath we seem to be facing today. A while back I was reading where a man the size of Goliath in Biblical days was mentally slow, not very agile with limited eyesight. As I think about that only the belief of his size would have been scary, but even so David was well aware that the battle was God’s so was not fearful. A small pebble of Truth destroyed that giant just as today when we turn wholeheartedly to God. There is only one God!
Psalm 79:9 states “Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.” Yes, use wisdom and be law-abiding but refuse to be obsessed with fear and serve only the one God. He will deliver us from all evil.
Today as I was studying the parable of Mary and Martha, immediately I began to think of them in today’s scenario. It came to me that Martha would be scurrying about making sure her pantry was full and most likely fretting and wringing her hands. Then I thought of Mary listening to the Christ and yes, still taking human footsteps that she was led to do, but by focusing on the Christ, she would experience more harmony and less fear.
1 John 2:7 reads “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” When we stay in the light, we are certainly less likely to stumble and fall. Error is much easier to detect, refute and replace with the Truth! Today, I will stay in the light.
Today has begun with my telephoning in to our Church service. My heart filled as I thought of all the work being done by individuals nationally so this could happen. Then I saw where a truck driver received his dinner at no charge from a large franchise as he ordered his pick-up meal with the bill saying “O due and thank you for your service.” Downtown in our little town, a local food truck is preparing lunch for one of our grocery stores employees.
As I focus on these things, they just seem to multiply, which is always the case. John 4:35 states “There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, ‘Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.'” Look through God’s eyes and this is what we see and I will do that today!
For years there has been complaint regarding the imbalance of salaries. For instance, many have thought our teachers have long been underpaid and CEO’s, celebrities and sports figures overpaid.
Just read where yet another CEO of a large corporation has given up his multi-million dollar salary until the end of the year in order that his people on the frontline will be paid. So grateful to see so many others do that. This is God working His purpose out! He has always and will always be in control.
Psalm 46:10 states “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Will continue to pray to see God everywhere.
Just returned from the grocery store and we are being grateful for being able to do this. The very next thing we are voicing is our gratitude for those making $15 an hour, not the executives but the stockers, checkers, the people picking up our trash, etc. What would we be doing without them right now?
Also, thinking that a virus needs a living being to stay alive and we need to check our thinking to see what we are feeding? Are we feeding the frenzy, the fear of not having enough groceries or supplies or even contacting this? Today, I will focus on gratitude of the abundance of love being expressed, the sharing of supplies, the reaching out to help one another.
Colossians 2:2-3 states “This is what I have asked of God for you: that you will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love, and that you will have the rich experience of knowing Christ with real certainty and clear understanding. For God’s secret plan, now at last made known, is Christ Himself. In Him lie hidden all the mighty, untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Yesterday we were waiting for our groceries to be delivered and discussing a tip for the driver. Soon we were in a full-out discussion on how we tip. We both agreed that in a restaurant, the size of the tip was determined by the service; the better the service, the larger the tip and if the service was bad, the tip would be next to nothing. After decades of doing this, a light came on! When you have a server with an attitude, that person needs love! It could change his or her life! We are not aware of what that person is dealing with right then.
As I thought on, it occurred to me that we needed little cards to leave with the tip that said “You are loved!” or “Love reflects Love”. Immediately my belief vanished and a deeper understanding of Love appeared. That is not rewarding bad behavior but expressing unconditional love that is needed. That is my new practice!!
Ephesians 5:8 states “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” I choose light.
It is becoming more clear daily that true Church has nothing to do with a building! It is people reaching out to one another in love and compassion. All of the Churches in our area are closing their doors so now we are experiencing real Church. It has absolutely nothing to do with the frock you are wearing nor how much money you are giving in the offering. It is what is in our heart and how we treat our fellowman. So grateful for this time where the best of people is brought out.
Psalm 37:4 states “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” One finds himself in the giving to others.
Since I have been in my home more and more, I decided to clean out closets a little at a time. Usually, I postpone this chore thinking it has to be done right now and I sometime tire myself out. Have been joyfully doing this since I have no time limit. The same I realize I’m doing with my prayer work. What I have noticed, I have been forced to stay in the present! The world is being cleansed and healed as well as we have been led to slow down.
Matthew 6:34 states “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” There is absolutely nothing to worry about as we are being forced to realize that all we have thought important is really not. Isaiah 41:10 says “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” These are promises and I know them to be true.
In our Bible lesson this week from II Samuel is the story of Amnon, the son of David seducing his sister, Tamar. The more I studied about what this could possibly represent, it dawned on me that it is error being forced upon us, which is happening now with the scare of the virus. It is forcing me to see more and more of the power of God as the only power there is. I see more and more love being expressed, less prejudice and less political bias. This has come for healing.
Romans 8:28 states “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Love is always the answer.
