Junk Mail

Thinking about junk mail, whether it comes from the postal service or on the computer, the only thing I really do with it is either toss it in the trash or delete it.  There is no time spent on agonizing over it, analyzing it or fearing it!  Shouldn’t I do the same with junk thoughts which come in all during the day?    “Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil” should help me to see through these unwanted thoughts rather than ruminate over them.  This is always my choice.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”  I Peter 5:6-7   That includes junk mail.

Mother’s Day

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day and this day can incite many emotions.  There are ones who have lost their earthly mothers, while there are those who are estranged from mothers.  There are those who never became a mother and may feel as they have missed out on something.  It seems the true winners in this  man-made holiday are the greeting card companies or  the owners of the companies who sell the many gifts or the florist!

Today I choose to think of my true Father, Mother, God and my relationship there.  If I listen humanly, there is a tendency to feel some sadness.  John 14:27 states “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  Praying with this verse, I pray for everyone and that peace fills my heart.

Discomfort Favorable

Often when we are uncomfortable, the first thing we choose to do is to complain.  It is exactly at this time, things surface in our thoughts that need to be handled, addressed and released.  If they stay buried, how are they overcome?  To me, it is a reminder that these very obstacles are hand-tailored for my very own spiritual growth.  It is also a reminder that I am nothing without God.

2 Corinthians 1:8-9 reads “We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered  in the province of Asia.  We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life.  Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.  But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”

Burdened Down

As I mentally made my list of all that needed to be done, I became overwhelmed.  The next step for me always is to check my motives and ask myself “Is this for the glory of God?” or “Am I glorifying me?”  The answer always comes speedily when I realize that there is nothing for me to fix!  Humbly turning to God and accepting His guidance, the load quickly lightens, freeing me up to do anything that needs to be done.  Isaiah 41:13 states “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”  Today, I will listen for direction and remove my ego and human will.  “Speak Lord, for thy daughter listens.”

Worthy of Answered Prayer?

Often when we are asking for help when experiencing a challenge, whether it is physical, financial or problems with relationships, there is doubt of deserving God’s help.  This was what I was thinking when I was reading about Peter cutting off the ear of the soldier who was arresting Jesus.  He didn’t hesitate in reprimanding Peter and immediately healed the man’s ear.  Surely, humanly this soldier didn’t merit this act of forgiveness.

From there, I begin to think of the world’s concept of riches is grasping and hoarding while God’s way includes letting go and giving.  Humanly, none of us are probably worthy of God’s goodness, but it is given us by grace.  1 Peter 1:8 reads “Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.”  This is all possible by the grace of God.

Overlook The Small Stuff

This morning I read where a High School teacher was making a point with her class.  The students were asked if they had $86,400, would they concern themselves if someone stole $10 from them?  She went on to say that is the number of seconds in a day so if someone offended them, it would probably take 10 or so seconds to do so.  Would they give them more of the day by ruminating , playing and replaying it mentally?  That is our choice!

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”  Psalm 16:11  This can only work if we refuse to be impressed with small things that try and steal our joy.

Universal Love

This morning as I was reading an article about “universal love”, the author quoted his friend as saying “Every time we stop an angry thought, we stop a bullet somewhere in the world.”   Isn’t that thought-provoking?  Each day I pray about the violence in the world and when I think on those words, I certainly see how I can help!  My prayer today is to become more aware of my thoughts and actions and more responsible, as well.  Will watch for any negativity and immediately refute it and replace it with thoughts of love and gratitude.  ! Timothy 2:8 states “I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.”

My first call of the day was of someone telling me that he didn’t have a restful night and I thought of mine, which was very restful and peaceful and became grateful rather than take it for granted.  There is always so much for which to be grateful and that very state of mind leaves no room for anger.  Thank you, Father.
