Christmas Bells

Just read an article written by Judith Olson and she wrote how Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the above poem after his son had been injured in the Civil War.  One of the verses is

“And in despair I bowed my head;

There is no peace on earth, I said;

For hate is strong,

And mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

His heart must have been heavy as he penned this, but he didn’t stop there because he then wrote

“Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The Wrong shall fail,

The Right prevail,

With peace on earth, good-will to men.”

My prayer today has been with this last verse as I pray for the world!
